SYSTEMS VOCAB
Expansion Slots- The slots inside the computer which accept computer boards
Flash Memory- Flash memory is a non-volatile memory device that retains its data after the power is removed.
Graphical User Interface- A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse.
Hard Drive- The mechanism that reads and writes a hard disk.
Hardware- the physical parts of a system.
Input Device- Any device that sends information into your computer system. ie : keyboard, scanner, mouse, trackball
Linux- Open Source operating system
MacOS- Apple Macintosh operating system
Mainframe- A large, multi - user computer
Minicomputer- A scaled-down version of a mainframe computer; larger and more powerful than a desktop computer.
Motherboard- The main circuit board inside a computer, containing the central processing unit, the bus, memory sockets, expansion slots, and more.
Operating System- The operating system running on the computer accessing the site.
Output Device- A hardware component, such as a monitor or printer that returns processed data to the user.
Platform- a hardware standard, such as IBM, Sun or Macintosh, etc
Professional Workstation- meets the needs of users requiring more computing power than a personal computer, yet less than a minicomputer
Random Access Memory- The primary memory in a computer. Memory that can be overwritten with new information.
Read-only-Memory- ROM is a storage chip that typically contains hardwired instructions for use when a computer starts.
Supercomputer- The class of fastest and most powerful computers available.
Syntax- The rules by which the words in a program are combined to form commands to a computer.
System Software- computer software that maintains and organises the computer system
System Unit- This is the technical term that refers to the box that houses your computer.
User Interface- The hardware and software rules and conventions that allows a user to interact and perform operations on a system, program, or device.
Utility Program- program that helps you manage files, get information about your computer
Virus- A Virus is a computer program that replicates by attaching itself to another object and/or program.
Window- A data structure that represents all or part of the display screen. Visually, a window is represented as a subarea of the display screen.

Animated object -An object such as a picture, text box, or other graphic that appers by itself during a power point presentation.
Animated text - Text that displays on a powerpoint slide one line or bulleted point at a time.
Animation - A sound or visual effect added to make a powerpoint presentation to make the presentation more intersting.
Bit apped image (bitmap) - An image made from a series of small dots.
Embed - To insert a sorce file into a destination file.
Footer - A line of text that appers at the bottom of each page in a file containing information such as a document's name , a page number, or the date.
Header - A line of text that appers at the top of each page in a file containing information such as the document's name , a page number, or the date.
Link- The connection between a source file and a destination file, or between two tables.
Slide master - A particular combination of placeholder on a powerpoint slide reserving space for text and/or graphical elements.
Title master- A hidden slide in every powerpoint presentation that stores design template specifications such as placeholder sizes and positions font sizes fonts and styles , and background color for any slide that uses the title slide layout.
Transition- The way in which one slide replaces another during a powerpoint presentation.

PowerPoint Vocabulary
Presentation-is a former or an informal report usually given orally sometimes called a speech or a talk.
Thumbnails-the slide tab that contains a small view of all slides in the presentation.
Splitter bars -horizontal or vertical bars that separate the left, slide and notes panes in normal view.
Title slide-the first slide in a presentation.
Title -the main topic of any given slide that is displayed.
Placeholder-is a preset location reserving space for a slide element.
Title area -Is a placeholder for the slide's title.
Text area -Is a placeholder for a subtitle or a numbered or bulleted list.
Object area-Is reserved for objects.
Rich Text Format (RTF) - A file format with the extension that enables text to be transferred and read by different applications, such as word.
Auto Content Wizard-is a tool that can help you create a presentation easily with programed layouts, design, and text.
Boilerplate text -standard text which is appropriate for that type of presentation.
Indent level- is a number that indicates the indent and importance of the subtitle in relation to the title.
Promote - move a subtitle to the higher level you Can promote.
Demote - a subtitle to a lower level, which increases the indent and reduces the type size.
Object - the slides in a presentation which are non text elements such as charts, tables, clip art, pictures, photos, movie clips, or other type of information.
Subtitle - any text that's follows the title and gives more detail about the title.
Color scheme- the eight colors used in the design of a power point presentation-colors for backgrounds, fonts,hyperlinks,etc.A presentation 's color scheme varies depending on the design template used In the presentation.
Design Template- a file that contains the preprogramed formatting available for a PowerPoint presentation,such as colors,backgrounds,fonts, and bulletins.
Slide layout-A particular combination of placeholders on a PowerPoint slide,reserving space for text and/or graphical elements.
